Valence Valence

Day 1 - Valence - La Chapelle-en-Vercors

The pilgrimage begins in Grenoble. A visit to the Museum of the Resistance and Deportation will teach you more about a city that was long spared repression, before being invaded by the Germans in 1943. The Resistance movements then organised would be heavily punished.

Next, head to the Vercors Plateau via Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte where a memorial and the National Necropolis of the Resistance can be found. Continue next to Val de Lans as far as Villard-de-Lans, where you will learn more about the “forgotten” of Vercors and the history of the parachutes that never came.

  • Distance : 156 km
  • Duration : 3h8

Day 2 - La-Chapelle-en-Vercors - Villard-de-Lans

After descending Les Grands Goulets, you will cross Pont-en-Royans, whose suspended houses are stacked at the end of the Bourne Gorges. Next, head for the mountainside towards the Plateau of Presles before heading down into the Isère valley via the Gorges du Nan. You then head up to the Valley of Rencurel via the superb Ecouges Canyon. Turn left towards Méaudre and then Autrans, in an environment of almost Scandinavian scope. Last round of wheels to Lans-en-Vercors before joining Villard-de-Lans, for a lovely stopover in this family resort

  • Distance : 115 km
  • Duration : 2h41

Day 3 - Villard-de-Lans - Valence

This final stage brings you back towards the Provençal atmosphere of La Drôme. You will descend the entire Bourne Gorges before going back to the col de la Machine at the top of Combe Laval. You will then cross the beautiful Forest of Lente to reach the dizzying Col de la Bataille. Enjoy a break in Léoncel to visit the elegant Cistercian abbey before plunging south into the Vallée de la Gervanne, the southern jewel of Vercors. In Beaufort-sur-Gervanne, turn right towards Combovin via Col Cavalli, from where you can easily reach Valence for a final glimpse of Vercors.
