Along the Vélodyssée® from Saint-Nazaire to Les Sables d'Olonne
The Vélodyssée® is the véloroute from England to the Spanish border which runs along the Atlantic in France. Predominantly small roads and greenways protected from car traffic. The section you are travelling begins south of Brittany in St-Brévin-Les-Pins and ends at Sables d’Olonne in Vendée. You will follow the Côte de Jade (Pornic), go around the bay of Bourgneuf, then, facing the Ile de Noirmoutier, you can take the Passage du Groix. In the Vendée, you will discover renowned seaside resorts, lively fishing ports such as St-Jean-de-Monts or St-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and even a AOC vineyard and fiefs-vendéens, before arriving between dunes and salt marshes at Sables d’Olonne.

Saint-Brevin-Les-PinsLes Sables d'Olonne
From St-Brévin-Les-Pins to Pointe de St-Gildas, your trek takes you along sandy beaches before the landscape changes alongside the Côte de Jade (whose sea shares the same colour), the domain of small creeks and small attractive beaches such as the one in Porteau. Go around the charming little fishing village of Pornic dominated by its granite castle buried in the greenery. Next, you will enter the Breton-Vendée marshes to arrive at Bouin located on an old island surrounded by polders.
Leaving Bouin, you can admire the typical Port du Bec and the Passage du Gois, passable at low tide to go to the island of Noirmoutier. In La Barre-de-Monts, at the Daviaud, you will find the Ecomuseum of the Breton-Vendée Marsh that will delight young and old alike. In ND-de-Monts, take the detour to the lighthouse in Kulmino: its elevator leads you to the discovery of extraordinary views. Then, if the tide is low, before arriving at St-Jean-de-Monts, you can explore the Pont d’Yeu, a 3km strip of land that leads to Ile d’Yeu.
A few km after your departure, at Sion-sur-l’Océan there is a surprise in the shape of the famous rocks of the Corniche Vendéenne. Then, in St-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, a very lively fishing port, you can aquaint yourself with the activities of the sea at the Maison du Pêcheur (Fisherman’s House). You can then go through the AOC Fiefs-Vendéens vineyard. Afterwards, a nice winding path between the forest and the old salt marshes, will lead you to Les Sables d’Olonne, a lively and famous seaside resort.
