Orléans Tours

Day 1 - Orléans - Chambord

Day 2 - Chambord - Blois

Chambord, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, is depicted by dimensions that leave the visitor reeling (77 staircases, 156m-long façade, 282 fireplaces, 426 rooms, etc.). The château of Blois, home to seven kings and ten queens, provides an opportunity to review French architecture from the Middle Ages to the 17C. Day 3 - Blois - Amboise

Built between the 15 and 16C, the château of Amboise was one of the first castles to introduce Italian architectural trends into the Loire valley. Leonardo da Vinci is buried in the chapel of Saint Hubert. In addition to the must-see castle, the town of Amboise is well worth a look: banks of the River Loire, historic houses and winding lanes and streets. Make the most of this overnight halt to admire this delightful town.

Day 4 - Amboise - Tours

Treat yourself to the tour to end all “Tours”. A major religious, intellectual and artistic centre in the Middle Ages, Tours combines historic half-timbered houses with friendly riverside cafés-cum-dance halls. Explore the cathedral district, possibly pausing at the second-hand book stalls, before visiting the edifice itself, a Gothic masterpiece adorned with ornate stained-glass windows. Historic Tours, beautifully restored in the 1970s, sports cobbled streets, many of which are pedestrian.
