Fontainebleau Versailles

Day 1 - Fontainebleau - Vaux le Vicomte

The Château and forest of Fontainebleau offer so much that you’re advised to plan ahead to get the most from your trip. Book one or more of the thematic guided tours to discover the gardens, the Napoleon Museum or the chambers of the historical personalities of this château which experienced eight centuries of sovereign presence. After a picnic in the park, a hike on the Denecourt-Colinet trails, guided by the ingenious ONF app, will reveal the treasures of the Fontainebleau forest.

Day 2 - Vaux le Vicomte - Rambouillet

The château de Vaux-le-Vicomte that once turned Louis XIV pale with jealousy before inspiring Versailles will not disappoint! This 17th century masterpiece, orchestrated by Nicolas Fouquet, assembles the talents of the greatest artists of his time. The Musée des Équipages takes you back in time, roam the extensive grounds of the Jardins de Le Nôtre, whilst the guided tours reveal the château’s fascinating history. On Saturday evenings from May to October, the night visit by candlelight is a delight.

Day 3 - Rambouillet - Vallée de Chevreuse

From Rambouillet to the Chevreuse Valley, your route is dotted with beautiful forests ideal for hikes, and castles that have hosted leading historical figures. The Park and the political Château de Rambouillet, the Château de Breteuil and its fascinating reconstructions or the Promenade des Petits-Ponts and the Château de la Madeleine in Chevreuse offer long hours of walks and visits. The Baladobus offers easy access to the various sites of the valley.

Day 4 - Vallée de Chevreuse - Versailles

Versailles does not deliver all its treasures in one day. You can spend the morning exploring the main rooms of the castle: the Grands appartements, the Galerie des Glaces and the chambre du Roi.
