Day 1 - Saint-Jean-de-Luz

St-Jean-de-Luz  is a charming seaside town where the villas, palaces and ship owners’ mansions blend  with traditional, painted wood Basque houses. Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy the magnificent Grande Plage and visit the city centre and the splendid St-Jean-Baptiste church where Louis XIV and Marie-Thérèse were married in 1660. A walk around the always busy port is very pleasant towards the end of the day. Tomorrow, the serious business begins…

Day 2 - Saint-Jean-de-Luz - St-Jean-Pied-de-Port

The trek begins nicely: a day of small roads, bordered from the outset with red and white basque houses, pelota frontons and typical villages like Ascain, Sare and Ainhoa. A foray into Spain offers you the climb to Col d’Otxondo (574 m), while the Ispéguy pass (672m) brings you back into France. In St-Etienne-de-Baïgorry, you’ll find a pretty traditional Basque village before you arrive in St-Jean-Pied-de-Port which you can explore during an evening stroll.
