Do you really know what a Christmas market is? If you’ve never drunk a glass of mulled wine accompanied by bredele – small sugar coated biscuits – surrounded by Alsatian stalls, you still have so much to discover! Come and stroll in an exhilarating atmosphere: from Colmar, « the little Venice », to Strasbourg, where almost two million people flock each year to celebrate.

MyTripTailor advice: open dates for the markets vary from one town to the next. For further info visit www.marche-de-noel-alsace.com

Colmar Strasbourg

Day 1 - Colmar - Ribeauvillé

Discover Colmar on foot or by boat: its canals, its half-timbered houses and balconies of geraniums will get you into the spirit from the outset. Have lunch in this town renowned for its gastronomy, before dropping by the Hansi Museum to discover this illustrator. Keeping with the “culinary” theme, enjoy a glass of gewurztraminer or crémant in one of the many nearby cellars. The Christmas market opens in late afternoon: Spend the evening browsing and nibbling on local specialities, before heading to Ribeauvillé in the late evening.

  • Distance : 18 km
  • Duration : 0h27

Day 2 - The markets of the vineyard around Ribeauvillé

This colourful and adjoining town, typically Alsatian, is well worth a visit, and not only for its pinot grigio cellars! Admire the main street’s half-timbered houses, the Tour des Bouchers and the Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand church. Take the car to visit the medieval town of Kaysesberg. You can also go to Bergheim, another medieval town, or to Riquewihr, at the heart of the wine-producing villages.
MyTripTailor advice: Head to Ribeauvillé on the weekends of 8th or 15th of December 2018 to enjoy its Christmas market.

  • Distance : 52 km
  • Duration : 1h14

Day 3 - Strasbourg

Head straight to Strasbourg, though one day won’t be enough to take in all of its exceptional architectural and cultural heritage. Explore its cathedral, its medieval quarter or its museum of modern and contemporary art… before seeing the city transform before your eyes at nightfall. The Christmas market here is an exceptional event, rich with festivities and events – concerts, shows… – and particularly vast! Lose yourself in the stalls, savour the festive, culinary and traditional ambiance.
